Review 10 ways to hate from rockezine Dimension Seven - 10 Ways To Hate 10 (+1) tracks - 46:55 minutes Bukkake Records/Zomba 8.0/10
Ever heard of Dimension Seven? Well, after 140 gigs in barely 3 years, it's getting quite hard to miss them! They were the support act for huge bands like Machine Head, Misery Loves co., Papa Roach, and this list goes on and on. Not impressed yet? Dimension Seven won several band contests, with the absolute highlight in winning the contest of Best Live Act at "Grote Prijs van Nederland 1999"!
Right from the start they have played their asses off to gather enough money to make a full length album. So Dimension Seven is proud to present their debut album "10 Ways to Hate" as it sees the light at Friday 30th of March during their live CD presentation. Get yourself ready for a sneak preview..
The music is best described as Slipknot meets Marilyn Manson with a touch of Soulfly. The lyrics on the album aren't highly intellectual and pure poetry like Keith Caputo or Mike Patton. They are very basic and primal, it's all about the anger and hate, but it takes some research to understand where all this shit is coming from. When you listen to "Click it" there is a 5 minutes whisper behind this song that explains some of the aggression and misery they feel inside themselves. The fact that even though I do miss some depth in the songs themselves, it doesn't mean that this is an album without any concept. That part is crystal clear, the title of the album says it all, every song on the album carries a piece of the puzzle that leads to the so called "10 Ways to Hate". For example "No.1" is about Egoism, "Auto Fellatio" symbols arrogance, while "Click it" deals with hierarchy and so on. Until you finally reach the end, the last song, "Fuzzy". Who's sick?! Listen to it, and think about it.
The thing I really like about the album is what Dimension Seven does with all influences they got. When I was listening to "10 Ways to Hate", it wasn't hard to recognize all my favourite bands born in the Nu-metal scene. But nevertheless they experiment a lot and even manage to make complex, 'against-the-grain' music, without losing some grooving hooks and a straight forward sound. A song like "Auto-Fellatio" (do check out the remix bonus track by Chillburn) just sticks in my head. While "10 Ways to Hate", "Fester Way" and "Bitch In a Coma" are becoming friends with the repeat button on my CD player. Oh hell, play this whole record maximum volume on your stereo and wake up your neighbours!
When you feel totally pissed off and sick of this world you will enjoy this album immensely, I know I do..
